The Vintage Vice City Pack: What Pre-Ordering Actually Gets You

The Vintage Vice City Pack is the pre-order bonus for Grand Theft Auto VI, attached to both the Standard and Ultimate editions. It is the only content in the game whose availability is tied to when you buy rather than to which edition you buy.

The contents

The period framing, and a common misreading

Everything about the pack points backwards - a 1955 car, seventies clothing, and Rockstar's own line about flashing back to when the neon burned brightest. That has produced a persistent belief that GTA VI contains a period section.

It does not, as far as anything published shows. Rockstar's description of Vice City opens "we're a long way from the '80s, but Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America" - the game is contemporary, and the pack is retro-styled cosmetics inside it.

How it compares to Rockstar's previous pre-order bonuses

Measured against the studio's own history, this is a substantial pack - and measured against a hundred-hour campaign, it is still cosmetic.

Does it create real urgency?

Only if it never becomes purchasable, and Rockstar has not said either way. That single unanswered question determines whether the pack is a reason to pre-order or simply something you get if you happen to.

• Rockstar has historically released some pre-order content separately later, and has kept other items exclusive indefinitely.
• Nothing in the pack affects progression, difficulty or access to content.
• The garage is the only item whose absence you would notice mechanically, and no storage system has been described for players without it.
• The pack is identical across editions, so it is irrelevant to the Standard versus Ultimate decision.

Where to get it

The pack is attached to pre-orders placed through official channels. Buying from anywhere else risks not receiving it, and in the case of key resellers risks not receiving the game.

It is worth stating the absences directly, because pre-order packs are often assumed to contain more than they do.

• No in-game currency, unlike several previous Rockstar pre-order bonuses.
• No story or mission content.
• No map area, and no access to anything gated.
• No discount on the Ultimate Edition upgrade.
• Nothing that affects difficulty, progression or completion.

Reading 'and garage' carefully

Rockstar's phrasing is "the timeless two-tone '55 Vapid Stanier sedan and garage alongside the world-famous Ocean Beach". The garage and the car are bundled in a single clause, and the location applies to the garage.

The weapon pattern, and what it implies

Rockstar calls it "an iconic weapon pattern that echoes the excess of the past", and shows it applied to a submachine gun laid across a car seat beside cash.

A pattern implies an application system - patterns are applied to weapons rather than being weapons. Combined with the engraved pistol variants in the Ultimate Edition, that is two separate pieces of evidence that weapon appearance can be changed, from two different packages.
