How to Cancel a GTA 6 Pre-Order and Get a Refund

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, which means money has been taken against a game that will not exist for months. Knowing how to get it back is worth five minutes, particularly given that this title has already been delayed twice.

The common thread is that the pre-release window is the easy one. Once a digital game has released and been downloaded, refund eligibility narrows sharply on every platform.
What happens if it is delayed again
A delay does not cancel a pre-order automatically. The order stays in place against the new date, and it remains cancellable on the same terms as before.
- Digital pre-orders on both consoles typically remain refundable up to the new release date.
- Some platforms re-authorise payment closer to release rather than charging immediately, so a delay may mean nothing has been taken yet.
- Retailers holding a deposit against a physical copy generally continue to hold it, and it stays refundable.
- Rockstar has never issued a blanket refund following a delay, and both previous delays passed without one.
Whether you lose the pre-order bonus
If you cancel, you lose the Vintage Vice City Pack entitlement attached to that order. Re-ordering before launch should restore it, since the pack is tied to pre-ordering rather than to a specific date.
Rockstar has not published a cut-off date for pre-order bonus eligibility. In practice these entitlements have applied up to release, but if you cancel and intend to re-order, doing it promptly avoids finding out the hard way.

If you have not been charged yet, cancellation is simply removing the order. If you have, it is a refund request, and refunds return to the original payment method rather than to wallet credit in most cases - though platforms sometimes issue wallet credit instead, which is worth checking.
Reasons people actually cancel
- Switching edition - cancelling Standard to buy Ultimate, or the reverse, which is common once the contents are examined.
- Switching format from digital to physical after deciding resale value matters at $79.99.
- Switching platform, if a household ends up with different hardware than planned.
- Waiting for reviews - entirely reasonable, and the pre-order can be replaced any time before launch.
- A third delay, if one happens, which would push the purchase into a different budget period.
The fourth is worth taking seriously. Nothing about pre-ordering GTA VI is time-limited except the Vintage Vice City Pack, and there is no supply constraint on a digital copy.
What a refund actually returns

A delay is not a breach
