GTA 6 Gameplay: Every Confirmed Feature So Far

What Rockstar has actually shown and stated about how the game plays - kept cleanly separate from the rumours attached to it.

This is the page most likely to be wrong on other sites, because GTA VI gameplay coverage is overwhelmingly built on the 2022 development leak and on inference from Red Dead Redemption 2. Below, confirmed and unconfirmed are kept in separate tables rather than blended into one list.

Confirmed

The 2022 development leak showed work-in-progress builds from years before launch. Features visible there may have been cut, rebuilt, or been debug tools. It is not a reliable feature list.

What the trailers genuinely reveal

Setting aside speculation, the trailers do carry real information - you just have to read them as technical statements rather than as feature announcements. Crowd density in the Ocean Beach scenes is far beyond GTA V's. Water is present in nearly every environment shown, supporting the map's emphasis on marine traversal. And Rockstar's decision to state that footage is in-engine on PS5 is itself a claim about what the shipping build looks like.

  1. Crowd and traffic density noticeably above GTA V - the clearest technical claim in the marketing.
  2. Water traversal integrated across regions rather than isolated to one area.
  3. Both protagonists present in shared scenes, not separated by mission.
  4. In-engine capture on PS5 confirmed by Rockstar, which sets a fidelity floor.
  5. Lighting and time-of-day variation across the same locations between trailers.

Why the single-player framing matters mechanically

Rockstar and Take-Two have repeatedly described GTA VI as a single-player experience. That is usually read as a statement about online multiplayer, and it is - but it also has design implications. A game built without a concurrent online mode has no reason to hold back systems for monetisation later, and no need to design missions around eventual multiplayer reuse. Whether that produces a denser single-player game is unknowable, but the constraint is real.

A single-player experience.

The activities Rockstar has named

The confirmed list has grown since the trailers, and almost all of the growth came from edition and regional copy rather than from gameplay marketing.

ActivityWhere Rockstar named it
HuntingMount Kalaga regional description
FishingMount Kalaga description, and the Squalo boat copy
Off-road driving on trailsMount Kalaga description
Haircuts, facial hair, makeup, nailsSara's Unisex Salon
Tattoos - over 50 designsElectric Fang Tattoo
ClothingStock 305, Goodtime Gear, Vice City Style
Vehicle modificationRideout Customs
Vehicle storage, weapon storage, fencingParadise Garage
Raiding a gang compoundPTT Youngin$ bonus content
Finding and restoring project carsWyman's commission

Ten named activities. Eight of them come from product descriptions written to justify a $99.99 price, which is a strange but genuinely informative source.

What the trailers confirmed on their own

  • Two playable protagonists, presented as a pair.
  • Driving, on road and off it.
  • Firearms carried and aimed.
  • Swimming and underwater environments, via the Keys reef screenshot.
  • Boats, airboats and aircraft present in the world.
  • Weather, time of day and a full day-night cycle across the published images.

Note what is absent from both lists: nothing about combat feel, mission structure, progression or the interface. Rockstar has named a great many activities and described how none of them work.

Will GTA 6 have a first-person mode?

Not confirmed. GTA V added one in its next-gen re-release and it is a reasonable expectation, but Rockstar has not announced it for GTA VI.

Is there co-op in the story mode?

No. Rockstar has consistently described GTA VI as a single-player experience.

How long is the campaign?

Unknown. Rockstar has not given a figure, and any number you see quoted is invented.

Can you buy property?

Not confirmed. Property ownership has appeared in previous GTA games but has no official mention for GTA VI.

What are the performance modes?

Not announced. Rockstar has said nothing about fidelity or framerate options on any hardware.
